As a woman, I can honestly say I feel my best when I look my best. My mind is clearer, and I tend to be more confident and self-assured. No, looks are not everything, but they are important. The way you present yourself to the world determines the response and reactions you will receive. Everything is energy. Your clothing, the color you wear on your nails, your jewelry…. EVERYTHING. Just like our thoughts, how you look contributes to the energy and vibration you give off. When you get intentional about your looks and appearance, you can shift up the energy and create the vibe you want to give off. We can control how we are perceived and what we attract.
An intentional woman is a powerful woman. Everyone knows or has seen a woman who always looks well put together. Her style and appearance are captivating. She has a signature style or something that makes her always stand out from the crowd and recognizable.
Getting intentional with how you show up, helps you to always look put together without too much effort. You decide how you want to be portrayed, and you make intentional choices regarding your look that gives off that energy.
Your Personal Brand
I'm sure you heard of branding when it pertains to a business or company. When you see the big yellow “M” while driving down the road, you automatically know that McDonald's is soon coming up. You know the taste of McDonald’s fries. McDonald's has created a brand that is unforgettable.
You are the CEO of your life. Creating a personal brand for yourself that is unforgettable and promotes what you stand for and how you choose to be seen is powerful. Getting intentional and creating your brand for your life is the way you stay in control of the vibe you give off. This will, in turn, attract to you certain people, circumstances, and opportunities that are in alignment with what it is you want in life.
As humans, we subconsciously relate and gravitate to things and people that feel “safe” to us. Consistently showing up in your social circles as your personal brand creates an energetic bubble around you that gives off a trustworthy vibe. People automatically feel as if they can trust and relate to you. You also come across as a woman who is well put together and knows what she wants out of life. Your personal brand is the first step to showing up physically as a woman who is consistent and on point.
There are several key factors that determine your personal brand.
Hair & Nails
Character and Personality
Who are you at your core? Your true authentic self who you want to show up as in the world. How do you want the world to view you and treat you? Examining your character and personality is the first step to determining your personal brand as a woman. It will help you define the other areas of your brand by making sure they are in alignment with who you want to become.
Make a list of all the qualities that make you who you are. Write down your values and how you want to live your life. Your physical appearance should portray those things you listed.
Colors energetically light up our lives and are very important when it comes to your personal brand. All colors give off different vibrations and frequencies. Choosing a color palette of no more than 5 colors for your brand will help you stay within a certain energetic frequency.
When choosing your color palette, start by thinking of colors you naturally gravitate to, such as your favorite color. Then think of other colors that complement those colors. Try to also pick colors that relate to your character and personality and the vibe you want to give off. Your color palette will be your go-to colors when it comes to your hair, nails, and building your wardrobe. Be very intentional with the colors you choose and how they complement each other.
Your Signature Scent
Smells and scents trigger the subconscious mind. Your scent introduces you before you open your mouth, and it lingers long after you have left.It plays a major role in first impressions and how you will be remembered. Intentionally using certain scents and fragrances lets you control the effect you will have on the subconscious of others. I believe in consistency, it is one of my top five values. Therefore, I stick to no more than 2 signature scents; one for spring and summer, and one for fall and winter. Having a signature scent makes you memorable and relatable to others. This is in return helps people to be more vulnerable and open with you.
When choosing your signature scent, think of what fragrances relate more to the vibration you want to give off when you step into a room. How do you want to be remembered when you leave? Choose scents that trigger good feelings in you when you smell them. That is usually the best option that fits your character and personality. A good quality perfume is usually an investment and will be one of the best investments you will ever make.
To tap into your feminine energy, I always suggest to women to keep their scents soft and flirty. There are several different fragrances to choose from when picking your signature scent. It may take some time to choose that one scent that will represent you. Experiment with several before making a final choice.
Fresh- fresh scents are refreshing and somewhat zesty. They pertain to your citrus scents such as lemon, bergamot, and mandarin. They also can refer to green scents such as lavender and rosemary. I recommend these scents as body washes and not so much for perfumes or sprays since they can be strong and a little too vibrant. The Dove “Go Fresh” Body Wash line is a perfect example.
Floral- floral fragrances can be light and delicate or intense. They are usually sweet and flowery. Think of roses, jasmine, and lilies. They are the most feminine of the scents and can give off an innocent, flirty, and trustworthy vibe. This scent can be used as body washes or as perfumes. The perfume Gucci Flora By Gucci - Gorgeous Gardenia is a perfect Floral Fruity scent.
Woody- woody scents are warm. They are perfect for the fall and winter months and perfect for wearing in the evenings. Woody fragrances are split into mossy woods with an earthy, sweet undertone, and dry woods which often have a smoky, leathery smell to them. Some wood based smells are cedarwood, sandalwood, vetiver and amber. These are great to use as perfumes for the woman who wants to be remembered as warm, mysterious, and captivating. YVES SAINT LAURENT Black Opium is soooo captivating and is an investment worth making.
Oriental- oriental fragrances are warm, sweet, and can be spicy. They add a touch of luxury to the scent. You can have a fragrance that is floral oriental or woody oriental. Think of cinnamon, vanilla, or cardamon mixed with jasmine or orchid. These scents are perfect as perfumes for the woman who wants to come across as rich and sensual. Most Coco Chanel Fragrances such as Mademoiselle by Chanel are oriental fragrances.
Hair and Nails
When it comes to personal care as a woman, hair, skin, and nails are three main focal points. Your hairstyle can make your entire appearance more elevated, or it can make you come across as unkept. Choosing styles that frame your face and are in alignment with your character and personality is key. For me, my go-to look is a bob. I love everything about the bob look. It fits my personal brand of “simple chic”, and frames my face really well.
The color of your hair is also really important. When choosing to add color to your hair, refer to your color palette. When trying to be feminine, think subtle. Loud colors are more masculine and soft dark colors are more feminine. A woman whose brand is more so minimalistic or simple may find brown and black hair with no color perfect. I woman with more or a fiery brand may opt for highlights. Stay true to your personal brand.
Some things to think about when choosing your hairstyles are:
Will you be natural or relaxed. For my brown girls, this will determine the daily upkeep of your hair as well as how you choose to style your hair.
If you are a natural goddess, choose if you want to rock locs or if your go-to style will be a wash and go or twist out. What are your go-to protective styles?
If you are a goddess who wears her hair straight, how do you usually like to wear your part... left, middle, or right.
Do you like rocking weave and lace fronts? What is your go-to hair texture? What length do you like?
Who is the best person to style your go-to style? This may take some time, trial, and error to find a stylist who actually captures your vision and slays your look. Do not give up. A great hairstylist will have you feeling and looking confident and amazing.
Your nails are also an important part of your appearance. There are three things to decide on when it comes to nails. Length, shape, and color. Are you someone who likes long nails or short nails? What shape do you like your nails? When it comes to the color of your nails, refer back to your color palette. Your color palette is your go-to when it comes to your hair, clothing, and also your nails. The more you stick to your color palette the more intentional your brand becomes. When it comes to nails, stay true to how you would define your personal brand. Someone with a “Simple Chic” personal brand may prefer neutral color simple nails, a french manicure, and white toes.
Your personal style of clothing is right up there in importance with your hairstyle. Your clothing should make a statement. It is your representation before you open your mouth and show your personality. Intentionally selecting a personal clothing style will help you control what vibe and message you want to give when you enter a room. After you select your style, you then want to choose items that are in alignment with your color palette. This will be your blueprint when putting together your outfits and looks. Let's take a look at some fashion styles to determine which one best fits your personal brand vision.
